• Don’t Leave Home. We deliver the storage to your driveway or parking space. You don’t need to rent a truck or ute or find some other way to move your goods into storage.

• Prevent Damage To Your Goods. Pack your goods tightly to prevent damage from shifting loads. Our modules are made of breathable plywood to assist in air circulation.  Also, Containaway’s mobile self storage modules are packed at ground level – no need for heavy lifting or using dangerous ramps.

• Safe & Secure. Containaway’s self storage modules are stored in a high security mobile self storage warehouse. We take the security issue very seriously, so visitors to our site must make prior arrangements. This also applies to our customers who require access to their goods in storage.

• Easy Access. We have a special area where our customers are welcome to visit and access their goods. When you are finished, we return the modules to our secure storage area.

1.Get Organised

In the lead up to your move:

• Get rid of as many unwanted items as possible – have a garage sale or give away to charity
• Start to use all the food in your freezer/pantry so it is not wasted
• Draw up a list of things you will need to have for the moving day – remember to leave out the kettle and other essential items
• Clean items such as doonas, blankets & rugs
• Get a start on packing items that are not used daily – be sure to mark each box top & sides including which room they will go in
• Back up your computer hard drive
• Notify your landlord of the date you will vacate
• Organise for a property inspection so you can get your bond back & arrange for your property to be cleaned before the inspection
• Check your home & contents insurance –this may need to be reviewed
• Arrange for rubbish to be removed
• Drain & disassemble water bed
• Disassemble prefab furniture & outdoor settings etc – remember to place the screws & fasteners into a sealed & marked container or plastic bag & tape to item
• Return all rented DVDs & library books
• Arrange to disconnect phone, internet, gas & electricity
• Have mail redirected
• Update new contact details with major service providers, bank, rta, medicare etc
• Pay any outstanding bills
• Book your mobile self storage modules for delivery & arrange for friends, family or movers to be available

2.Packing Tips

• Thick, sturdy boxes are essential
• A mix of box sizes & even plastic tubs with lids are useful & can be reused after. Suitcases can also be filled.
• Good quality wide packing tape
• Scissors
• Marking pens
• Bubblewrap & butchers paper
• Tea towels, hand towels & pillow slips are also useful for padding & they need to be packed anyway

3. How to pack

• Cushion the bottom of each box (especially for breakable items) – use pillows, blankets,
• & towels
• Wrap each breakable item individually
• Heavier items should be placed at the bottom of the carton with lighter items on top
• Mark each box top & sides with contents & which room they will go in
• Use lots of good quality packing tape
• Disassembled furniture will take up less space. Remember to place all screws, fasteners, alan keys etc in a plastic bag that has been labelled and then tape to the item
• Pack sharp tools & knives with plenty of padding taped around them
• Remove the glass plate from your microwave & tape door closed
• Remember not to overfill boxes – especially with books
• The last boxes loaded into the storage modules should be the first boxes of essential items that you want access to after your move
• Use old blankets, towels, doonas and sheets to protect your furniture

4. Pack safely

• Drain fuel from lawn mowers & empty gas bottle
• Dispose of all cleaning fluids, aerosol cans, paint, oil, thinners and fuel
• Remember that no hazardous, perishable, environmentally harmful or explosive goods can be moved into storage

5. The day before

• Arrange for the children to be occupied on the moving day
• Ensure a meal is prepared for moving day – this can be placed in an esky (with lots of ice from your freezer) along with cold drinks
• Defrost & clean fridge – don’t forget to leave the door open slightly to prevent mould
• Before you leave check all the cupboards & take a walk around for a final inspection
• Return all keys & remote garage door opener
